Online Poker Multi-Tabling Guide
Once you start making money at playing online poker one of the quickest ways to potentially increase your profits is to start multi-tabling. The term multi-tabling simply means that you’re playing on more then one poker table at the same time. You can play in tournaments or you can play in cash games, but the one thing that you need to ensure is that all the tables are the same stakes or as close as possible. For instance, if you’re playing $1/$2 cash games then all of your tables should be at this stake. If you’re playing in tournaments then you ideally want the tournaments to be the same stake, but you can also play the tournaments with similar stakes.
The reason why you need to make sure that all of the tables you’re playing are the same stake is so that you don’t make any mistakes. Often players will have a different game plan and strategy based on the stakes that they are playing. To keep everything simple you should just make sure all of the tables are the same stakes. You also need to make sure you find a poker room that will allow you to play the amount of tables you want. Some poker rooms only allow you to multi-table up to 3-4 tables whereas others allow you to multi-table 10+ tables.
The ideal set-up for an online poker player that will multi-table regularly is a dual monitor set-up so that you can have all of the tables a nice size that is clear. When you’re playing on a laptop or a small monitor you’ll find that the tables need to be really small and it makes it difficult to see your cards, the board and how many chips have been bet. Having dual monitors isn’t really an expensive investment and it could save you from making silly mistakes due to not being able to see something.
When you multi-table you’re going to need to be more focused then you typically are when you’re playing a single table. If you usually watch TV or something else while playing online poker you won’t be able to when you’re multi-tabling. You’ll typically always be in at least one hand when you multi-table and this will mean you need to be focused on your computer screen the entire time. This leads me to my next point which is that you need to take a lot of scheduled breaks when you multi-table. I recommend taking a small 5-10 minute break every hour when you play so that you can rest your eyes a little bit and clear your thoughts.
The benefits of multi-table are huge and it’s why many poker players move from playing casually to playing on a more regular basis. The amount of money you can make is really good and by multi-tabling you can simply wait for your good hands. You’ll also find that you will earn a lot of comp points with your online poker room and in most poker rooms comp points basically equate to real money. Comp points aren’t based on whether you win or lose either so you’ll always earn the extra points which could help turn a bad week into an alright week.
